My favorite project as of late has been the creation of an updated look for the Lake Mills Arts Festival.
I had another freelancer in the community do a take-off on our current logo,
she came up with a few designs
and I took those and molded and shaped it into several other designs,
settling on the committee in charge, with this one:
It keeps the art nouveau typeface and color palette, while adding in the stylized gazebo and tree elements which make a lot more sense than the previous city scene. After all, the art festival takes place in Lake Mills’ downtown Commons Park, which is studded with all kinds of trees and a lovely gazebo. The artists comment on the shade trees every year and the gazebo is the focus of the park.
The logo will be used on our website, blog, and all of our printed literature. I think this turned out to be a good look for us. What do you think?

I agree with you and I like it. Although, giving the old logo it’s due, many of the local businesses host some of the art work, do they not?
Yes, good point. Several businesses will buy what is known as a “purchase award” which is promise from the business to the artist that they will buy one piece of artwork from them the day of the festival. In return, the business will also display that piece of artwork in their business for the public to see.
The city/downtown element of the logo is the gazebo. In this logo, that element and the trees in the park, are simply more identifiable to the artists and I believe, will be appreciated by the public and the downtown businesses, as ell.
